Summer is the time- Permit Time!
Flats and structure both have them and they are very fun to play with once located. Plenty of bonefish around too! Haven't heard much about offshore and Ive only been a few time since mid July! it was great fishing but lots of sharks around! Lobstering and diving are on the bill for August with lots of permit chasing and tuna when they move by in mass! Be Well, Travis 305+906+0301 Just a few days after the southern winds pushed back against a cold front and won the tarpon started flooding in along the channels and in the backcountry. While on a charter today with some gentlemen for Maryland we managed to fool several tarpon and found them in fishable numbers in just about everywhere they should be once the migration gets into full swing! Even managed to spot a few permit in areas where they should be.. Didn't fish to them as the mission was tarpon! At the end of a long day with steady action i'm happy to announce that 2016 Tarpon Season is officially upon us.
We still have several windows of opening in the book for a couple boats through July! Give us a call and lets tighten up! Good fishing, Travis 305-906-0301 This week marks the start of the MARCH MERKIN a permit on fly tournament started by the late great permit master Jon Ain! Bear is guiding in it as he has every year since the its inception! Wishing him and his angler the best of luck and my the sun come out!
March is one of the most productive months for flats permit angling as they are in pre-spawn mode. Feeding, Feeding and more feeding to build up energy to produce the next batch of permit. When the weather plays the same game we like to the fishing can be magical. Permit will be staging on structure near the flats and reefs preparing to drop into the historical spawning areas in April. As many of you know BTT has a permit tagging program and we will be contributing to the efforts in deep water permit tagging all april... call today to book a permit tagging trip. It's a great feeling to be a part of something great and to further the science. Tarpon! 2016 started out a little cooler than the typical winter in the keys cooling the waters into the mid 60's for a very long time. Now that its bumped up to the 70's the waters around Key West are coming alive. Tarpon are showing up on the flats and in the usual areas the early fish haunt. Backcountry plug and fly fishing is starting to heat up and i for one am excited to get you and our current clients out for some silver king jumping action. We still have some dates available. Call, email or text several of our friends also have days available. One way or another we will get you on the water as our friends are the guys we fish with on our days off and go on missions to figure out new and fun patches of life. Its really not about us but our whole group and family. We look forward to your call! Good fishing and catch em up! Travis 305-906-0301 travis@keywestangling.com lots of exciting angling opps ahead as several of the migrations overlap. Tarpon are showing in a few places around the keys! Permit are pre-spawn feeding and schooling! Sails are expected to show in mass soon! Tuna are here in great numbers! And my ever favorite cobia is lurking deep in large numbers.. The last El Nino event lead to some of the best cobia on the flats we guides in the Keys have ever seen. I have been anticipating this rare event ever since and hope like mad it happens again!
The tarpon projection for 2016 is good so book your trip today with us or if our dates don't align we will find you one of our friends who knows whats up! Good fishing y'all, Capt. Travis 305-906-0301 Feburary is a fantastic month to see what the Florida Keys and Key West has to offer. Daily live music, cool tropical temp's (except on cold front day then little chilly).
Fishing: Lots of tuna being caught by those who take the time to get bait. Cobia are thick and key west is the winter home for many of the fish that live in the gulf. Permit are around hanging on shallow wrecks and structure... as for the flats haven't spent much time in water shallower than 4 ft. But reports are that its been good when the sun is out and wind down! Sharks have been the go to for the last few weeks. Fighting an apex predator is always a challenge and super rewarding. Miami boat show this weekend. Attending Thursday! On a final and super exciting note: Sea of Rust a film by Stellwagen Media is getting huge traction on the internet. You can view it on our PHOTOS/VIDEOS page! New tarpon video coming out in late March! check back for it for sure! Catch em up! Capt. Travis 3059060301 Fishing in the Florida Keys is fantastic in the travel/tourist months!
The weather was a little iffy for a few weeks with the dip in the jet stream but we are back to normal and the fish are biting! Backcountry, near shore and offshore are all producing great catches. below is a pic of Capt. Bear Holeman and a nice mutton while out on a co-op trip with Capt. Chris Trosset and Capt. Will McCabe with clients in tow! Great time for all! |
